Karting requires friction materials which are easy to modulate. The total weight of the kart is fairly limited and hence the available friction forces are limited too. Furthermore, due to the size of the tires, the torque transfer is limited. 

Therefore it is very easy to get to a wheel lock-up situation, if the friction material has too high a friction level or the friction rise is too steep.

For the same reason it requires a very skilled driver to make the most of a sintered friction material and this is the reason why ceramic materials are dominating the karting scene. 

Finally a higher level of thermal load will be put on the brake system with a sintered friction material, so this again point in the direction of a ceramic friction material.
